Letter from the President of the U.A.E. – May 2015
XXIX U.A.E. Congress – Malaga 18-20 June 2015
Dear colleagues,
I would like to remind you that the XXIX U.A.E. Congress will be held in Malaga from 18 to 20 June next with the theme: “The Citizen at the heart of the European Union: from the Convention and the Charter to our daysâ€/â€Le Citoyen au coeur de l’Union Européenne – de la Convention et de la Charte à nos joursâ€.
I am attaching the Congress Programme, which has been sent to all our members directly as well as through our website, and invite you to confirm your registration shortly.
As the Programme shows, we shall have a number of eminent speakers, including academics, judges and lawyers, who will ensure that the various sub-themes are dealt with thoroughly, as well as a lively and interesting discussion.
The status of the European citizen, and its many facets, will be the subject of in-depth analysis, first from a constitutional perspective of protection of fundamental rights, including its application to family law and social law, and then from the perspective of the exercise of the right of establishment and freedom of services. We will also examine the status of Citizenship with regard to the impact of setting up an area of freedom, security and justice, including in respect of freedom of communication and data protection.
Apart from its significant scientific breadth, the Congress is also a high point for meeting and socialising with other members, enabling regular renewal of professional contacts and helping to maintain and build on the friendship which membership of the UAE has meant for us all. The excellent social programme offered by the Malaga Congress is also to be highlighted.
In this respect, I would like to direct a special word of greeting and thanks to our friend and fellow member Agustín Cruz Núñez, Vice-President of the UAE, who took on the task of organising the 2015 Congress in particularly difficult circumstances.
Indeed, the unexpected circumstances which made it impossible to hold the 2015 Congress in Luxembourg, as initially intended, meant that it was necessary to find alternative solutions rapidly.
With the generosity and spirit of initiative with which we are all acquainted, our colleague Agustín Cruz Núñez immediately offered to shoulder this responsibility and succeeded, in a very short space of time and with the dynamism which we all recognise, in producing a high-quality programme. Let us reward his dedication and willingness with a huge turnout for the Malaga Congress.
Therefore, I would like to invite you to confirm your registration for the XXIX U.A.E. Congress, where I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you.
I am sure that the participation of you all will make the Malaga Congress a huge success.
Kindest regards
Carlos Botelho Moniz
President of the U.A.E.
