Giuseppe TESAURO (1942-2021)

The U.A.E. – European Lawyers’ Union commemorates Giuseppe Tesauro, Honorary Member of the U.A.E. since 1996, who passed away on 6 July 2021.

Professor Tesauro was a distinguished Italian jurist who deeply contributed to the evolution of EU law.

Born on 15 November 1942, he was (inter alia): Full Professor of International Law and Community Law at the University of Naples; Advocate before the Court of Cassation; Member of the Council for Contentious Diplomatic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Advocate General at the UE Court of Justice (1988-1998); President of the Italian Antitrust Authority (1998-2005); Member (2005- 2014) and then President (2014) of the Italian Constitutional Court.

The U.A.E. still proudly remembers that Professor Tesauro gave the welcome address at its XXXIII Annual Congress which took place in Naples in 2019 on Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in the European legal context: evolving legal tools and sector-specific implementation.

The Board of the U.A.E. expresses its mournful thoughts for the passing of Professor Giuseppe Tesauro, and offers heartfelt condolences to his family.
